Reception: Saturday, March 6, 3 - 5 PM

For years, I have been watching the kaleidoscopic and chameleon face of nature and despaired of ever catching its infinite details. Instead, I chose an alternate route where forms become gestural and iconic and likewise, places are transformed and condensed. These places that were once in specific locations have now become embedded in a temporal-spatial discontinuity similar to that of theater, cinema, and choreographic sequences.

The exception in this exhibit is a diary of revisited Rome and Southern Italy after twenty years absence. These gouaches are part perception, invention, and memory.

Wendy Gittler has a Masters Degree in both Painting and Art History. She has taught at Hunter College, The School of Visual Arts, Parsons School of Design, and the New York Studio School; and has also traveled extensively in the Mediterranean and subtropics. Her work is in numerous private collections and in the permanent collection of Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia and S. E. Missouri State University Museum.
